The San Antonio Zoo is a member of the Association of Zoos & Aquariums-approved zoo in Midland San Antonio, Texas. It is also located in the historic Brackenridge community. The zoo has a collection of more than three thousand animals including 750 different species. The annual attendance of the zoo is more than one thousand. This includes several exotic species such as Manatees, elephants, cheetahs, and a variety of birds. The San Antonio Zoo offers a wide range of activities for children and adults to enjoy. The zoo offers exciting live entertainment events such as Zoo Bucks and Zoo Show, which are also held each year on a weekend, during the month of December. Children can also participate in the Zoo Quest adventure program, which is designed to help children learn about animals and nature. The San Antonio Zoo features one of the largest collections of birds in the world. This includes more than two hundred different types of birds from five continents. Some of the animals featured include Macaws, Blue Headed Shearwater, Black Headed Bunting, Red-winged Blackbirds, and Lesser Scaup.
